Last Tuesday we had the fun task of attending the annual trade show put on by our good friends The Decorating Centre, in Burlington. It is always so inspiring and exciting to go to these shows and meet the suppliers directly – they are so energized and passionate to show you the latest from their lines. And so they should be! We saw so many wonderfully bright patterns and beautiful textures. A lot of the wall coverings we got to sneak peek were inspired by what’s currently trending in parts of Europe now – big, bright, bold colours and shapes: punchy pink flowers, enthusiastically sketched shapes and scribbles, and our favourite, daring and darling pink flamingos. Immediately we were wondering which client we could pitch these patterns to…
Over here in North America it seems we are comfortable with our neutrals, which is completely understandable and okay. Neutrals are warm and cozy, they are also classic and super easy to work with as far as accent colours go, which go hand-in-hand in these crazy socio-economic times. But it was a breath of fresh air to see these dazzling colours before our eyes.
As well, we had the pleasure of hearing designer Thomas Paul from Duralee speak. He talked a bit about the design process and his inspiration for his work. We also had the opportunity to see his latest line, which will not hit interior designer shelves until January. Unfortunately we can’t show you these yet, but again, the trend showed bold shapes and colours that included an abundance of sea life and symbols, stripes and large repetitive patterns in yellow, terracotta, azure, chartreuse, and merlot. As we say good-bye to Summer 2014, we will look to these new dazzling colours and daring patterns to carry us through the coming winter months, or at least inspire us.
