I’m in love with this powder room. It’s has a great boutique-hotel feel about it and it’s a great space for guests to use. A wall hung cabinet in an exotic wood floats within the space with a ledge that extends all the way across the toilet. The mirror then extends all the way across the room making this room feel much much much larger. The granite here was an off-cut piece that I got a great deal on from (www.graniteplus.ca) – Hamilton. The species is Emperador Brown. Sitting on top is a white vessel sink and will be complimented with the wall mounted faucet (as seen above) installed into the mirror. At the time the Plumber ( My Steve!) hadn’t installed it yet. Two sconces flank the vanity which is a flattering lighting effect compared to traditional lighting installed on top of the mirror.…

This is a shot from the Kitchen into the Great Room area. I love these
two contemporary lantern pendants over the island. I picked them up at Home Lighting in Burlington on Fairview. They are a great local supplier for lighting…and I was able to outfit this whole house with their help!
A large fireplace is the focal point of the Great Room and features a contemporary stone veneer product: www.ertchcoverings.ca I have this on my fireplace too! The mantle is stained to match the kitchen island. Two directional wall washers highlight the stone at the top of the fireplace. Because these ceilings are so high at 10 feet we were able to incorporate a coffered lit ceiling which defines the seating area from the Kitchen.
This is a shot of the staircase from the basement looking up to the Great Room.
The stairs were stained to match the hardwood and we used wrought iron knuckle spindles
installed using a 2 knuckle, 1 knuckle, 2 knuckle alternating pattern which follows the elevation beautifully.…

This is really the only overall shot I have of this kitchen so far.
This was shot during installation. I just love it.
A transitional shaker style door was chosen here and was paired with a sleek modern stainless cabinet pull. Cabinets by: Aya Kitchens (Stoney Creek)www.ayakitchens.com The perimeter cabinets are a soft off-white and the island contrasts in a dark espresso cherry. The granite is Delicatus White and the backsplash is a 1″ x 3″ polshed marble mosaic.
I designed a custom window valance to follow the shape of the arched window.
I optimized storage with large pantry units. The glass door cabinets above have low voltage down lights in the interior which creates a beautiful glow at night time. The interior of these cabinets are finished in the dark cherry to match the island.
The island features a built in bar fridge, bar sink, storage and seating. A great space to entertain!…

The material I chose for the Foyer is a traditional tumbled travertine tile in a versailles pattern with ivory grout. The majority of the flooring throughout the bungalow is an antiqued hardwood in a warm stain. Kentwood Flooring (www.kentwoodfloors.com). Using an antiqued or hand scrapped wood floor product is an excellent choice to hide wear and tear. I feel it’s the best hardwood option to use in a kitchen because it is so forgiving. …

Off the Foyer is the Dining room. I am in LOVE with hanging two chandeliers over dining tables. The leaded cut crystal fixtures work perfectly with the custom transoms. The wall colour is the rich: Alexandria Beige HC-77 (Benjamin Moore)…

The Foyer at the Johnston home had soaring 10 foot high ceilings despite the small footprint it had. To make this entry a little more special, I designed custom leaded glass transoms to sit above the openings of the Dining Room, Office and the Great Room. The transitional design incorporated bevelled glass inserts and semi antique glass material. The pieces were made by: Abbey Stained Glass, Burlington ON.…

From January until now I have been SWAMPED working on my first custom home project. I have been involved in; modifying the architectural plans, designing the kitchen & bath millwork, selecting interior/exterior finishes, paint colour selections, lighting selections and designing custom architectural details….ahhhhh and the list goes on! The countertops are being installed on Monday and if the plumber gets there on time (wink wink) to install all the finishing trims we will be done at the end of next week! My clients were originally planning on putting the house up on the market right away but I got a phone call today saying that they love it so much they are staying put. Amazing! Interior shots to follow next week. Stay tuned. …

The wainscoting is now up on walls which flows beautifully into the 2-sided bookcases that will house all of my clients books and will help to define the Living & Dining Areas. New crown mouldings were added to the room and all of the baseboards and door/window casings have been “beefed” up. The bottom portion of these cabinets will be receiving doors and crystal knobs.
I choose a warm white (Benjamin Moore , Oxford White OC -33) as the trim colour and I selected a deep plum colour ( Benjamin Moore, Summer Plum 2074-20) as the wall colour. This colour was pulled from a tapestry my client will hang over her fireplace.
We have lights! I chose the Troy Sausalito Chandelier for our Dining room chandelier (http://www.greatlighting.com/)
In the Living Room I have used the matching Sausalito Semi-Flush. Scroll down for before shots!…

Here is a little intro into a Living/Dining reno that I am currently working on…
My client was tired of her boring beige walls and her empty Dining room….Challenge # 1 Inject this room with colour and personality!
These “builder -style” columns can be found in many
production homes. Challenge #2…Rid this room of these UGLY columns!
My client has inherited from a loved one piles upon piles of books which sit in giant clusters all over the room. Challenge #3…..incorporate storage to house these cherished items!…
